Increased interest in the technical subjects in education

An increased interest in the technical subjects in education was noted in the last two years, Dr. Mladen Mitev, president of Bulgarian Nuclear Society said during the International Annual Conference Nuclear Energy for People official opening. In his welcome address to the participants in the event, Dr. Mitev expressed his confidence that nuclear power, as the flagship of Bulgarian energy, would be again the driving force behind these processes.
The International Annual Conference was held from 4th to 7th November 2019 in the town of Russe, Bulgaria. The conference was organised by Bulgarian Nuclear Society jointly with the European Nuclear Society and was supported by BULATOM and Kozloduy NPP.
The innovations in nuclear technology, nuclear safety and reliability of WWER reactors, decommissioning of nuclear facilities, nuclear medicine, radiation protection of the environment, and specifics of the legal framework for the construction of new facilities in the EU under the Euratom Treaty were presented during the conference sessions.
Presentation of the extended curriculum of the vocational high school for nuclear energy in the town of Kozloduy, Bulgaria “Igor Kurchatov” in order to train specialists in the field of radioactive waste management was included also in the conference agenda.
Traditionally, the “The Best Report of Young Professionals” competition for the professionals up to 35 years old was organized within the conference framework. Three young professionals were awarded this year and an Incentive Award was also presented.
The International Annual Conference of Bulgarian Nuclear Society is a forum for sharing knowledge in the areas of nuclear science, technology and nuclear application implementation in the industry. This event provides opportunities for exchanging experiences and ideas among experts from all over the world in the fields of nuclear power, radiation protection, and nuclear methods in medicine and environmental protection.
